Abigail Moore is interning with Caterpillar

Moore’spath to a professional internship began with specialized courseworkat91ֱ’sDan Dipert Career+Technical Center(CTC).Reflecting on the impact of the program,Moorenoted that theCTCprovided her with atailored skillset that helped her transition to the professional world.
“Stepping into the corporate world as a student, you don’t really know what to expect,” Moore said.“Youdon’tknow the proper terms to use, youdon’tknow how to carry yourself,and soI think that theyguided us in the right direction. They taught us how to speak, how to answer interviewquestions,and how to fit into a professionalsetting.”
The CTChas been an integral part of Moore’s budding career path since herfreshmanyear when sheparticipatedin a class that gave her hands-on engineering experience and knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems.From there,Mooreparticipatedin a CTC program that pairs students withinternships,and Caterpillar selected her to join their Risk and Compliance team.
“I’ve been having fun learning about Caterpillar as a whole because risk and complianceisneeded in everydivision and sector of the company,” Moore said.“But on theside,I’vebeen able to collaborate with some of the engineers that work alongside me and get an inside scoop of what that looks like.”
Beyond the classroom, Moore is a standout athlete on both the varsity girls’ basketball and softball teams for Arlington High and recently signed with the New York Women’s Professional Baseball League team. Despite having a very busy schedule, Moore believes you can work hard in the classroom and be very successful in extracurricular activities.
“I just remember that school always comes first,” Moore said.“Athleticsare my passion and where my heart is, butthey’renot possible without good grades.It’shard balancing those two, butit’snecessary to upholdeverything.”
Moore’s success is impressive, but she is one of many successful students in 91ֱ who are leveraging the opportunities offered by the district’s CTE program.
