91直播鈥檚 Class of 2025 is rolling in millions. Millions in scholarship dollars, that is.

The more than 4,100 91直播 seniors who walked across the stage this month are officially done with high school and on to the next stage of their lives. For many, that means college, and this group is well-prepared. In fact, the Class of 2025 has earned more than $60.9 million in college scholarships so far.

That number speaks to how impressive these students are.

Like the district鈥檚 Gates Scholars: John Nguyen and Evelyn Rosales from Arlington Collegiate High School and Abner Mejia-Lopez from Sam Houston High School.

鈥淥ur district has three students who received the highly selective ,鈥� said Meggan Horne, 91直播 guidance and counseling specialist. 鈥淟ess than 1% of applicants actually win this scholarship.鈥�

Or the 15 other Sam Houston grads who earned full scholarships to Texas Christian University.

Or Venture High School鈥檚 Aaron Gray with nearly $50,000 to go to Texas State.

Then there鈥檚 Lamar grad Jovani Sanchez who pulled in over $1 million in scholarships by himself.

And he wasn鈥檛 the only one. Martin High School鈥檚 Bryan Chan did that, too. Plus, he picked up the Amazon Future Engineers scholarship to go along with his full ride to Duke University.

There are also 92 student athletes who netted $5.6 million in scholarships to 70 different colleges.

And that鈥檚 just a few examples.

But one thing all of these scholarship winners had in common was significant support from their school counselors.

"Our counselors work tirelessly every year to help our students gain the financial means to pursue their post-secondary dreams,鈥� said Meggan Horne.

Thanks to those counselors and the students鈥� hard work, those post-secondary dreams are now real life.

As they head off into that life, Traci Thomas-Bragg, 91直播鈥檚 director of postsecondary partnerships, wants to give the graduates one last reminder. Thomas-Bragg led the team that coordinated 91直播鈥檚 graduation ceremonies.

鈥淚 would admonish graduates to remember,听鈥榊our education is a dress rehearsal for a life that is yours to lead.鈥�"听

Early graduation helps sisters chase dreams

Graduating from high school is always a proud moment 鈥� but for twin sisters Caila and Cristian Owens, the moment came a little earlier than expected.

The two walked the stage together last week at 91直播鈥檚 Dr. Marcelo Center for Visual and Performing Arts, celebrating not only their graduation from Venture High School, but their decision to take control of their futures.听

Venture, the district鈥檚 non-traditional campus, offers a unique model built around flexibility, self-paced learning and personal support. For students like Caila and Cristian, it created the opportunity to accelerate their education 鈥� and their dreams.听

鈥淭he benefit of me graduating early is being able to get a head start on college, giving me more time to plan things out for myself,鈥� Caila said. 鈥淚 sought out the opportunity to graduate early because of wanting to get a jump on the rest of my life. Venture has always helped me with everything, and for that, I know I will be very successful.鈥�听

After graduation, Caila will attend her dream college 鈥� 鈥� where she plans to become a NICU nurse.听

鈥淚 am very thankful that Venture has already made some of my dreams possible,鈥� she said.听

Cristian will also head to Clark Atlanta University and says early graduation made a real impact on her life.听

鈥淕raduating early has been amazing,鈥� she said.听鈥淚 will get an early start with college and planning my life out successfully. I sought out the opportunity to graduate earlier because I had a goal to get into my dream college. I accomplished my goal, and now I鈥檓 entering a new chapter thanks to Venture High School.鈥�听

Both sisters credit Venture not just with helping them graduate early, but with helping them believe in what鈥檚 possible. The support they听received gave them the confidence and momentum to pursue their dreams on their own timeline.听

Venture Principal Greg Meeks said the Owens sisters represent what鈥檚 possible when students are given the tools, space and encouragement to succeed.听

鈥淭he twins began their original high school career with us at Venture,鈥� he said. 鈥淏oth completed four to five years of school in the span of three years. They are the visual representation that if you open creativity, styles of learning and flexibility, students can strive while not being tied down to the normal walls and parameters in education.鈥�听

Venture鈥檚 flexible, student-centered approach 鈥� including the ability to move faster or slower through 85 different classes 鈥� helps students truly take ownership of their education.听

鈥淭he benefits of Venture are many,鈥� Meeks said. "Flexibility, ability to go faster, ability to slow down in struggle subjects and the ability to move to your next step of life with a successful hard-earned high school diploma.鈥�听

Venture graduates an average of 240 to 310 students each year and many of those 鈥� like the Owens twins 鈥� walk the stage early, ready to begin their next journey.听

鈥淚f it were not for Venture, I may not have been able to even graduate on time, but now I am ready to get an early start on college,鈥� Cristian said. 鈥淭hank you so much, Venture High School!鈥�

5th year in a row Martin students have earned scholarship

Bryan Chan sees camping out for basketball tickets in his future.

The Martin High School STEM Academy 2025 graduate is heading to to study electrical and computer engineering 鈥� and to become an avid Blue Devil basketball fan. His future school is known for its that camps out in line to get tickets for basketball games. 听

While Chan doesn鈥檛 have any of those coveted basketball tickets yet, he got something even more desirable last week. And it came in the mail 鈥� in an Amazon box.

Chan opened that box last week in front of several of his Martin teachers and administrators. Inside was a certificate declaring Chan the recipient of an scholarship and internship. There was a nice Amazon hoodie in the box, too.

The highly-competitive scholarship offers up to $40,000 at the school of the recipient鈥檚 choice along with an internship at Amazon.

鈥淭he internship is the big deal,鈥� said Martin STEM teacher James Hovey. 鈥淎fter freshman year, they pay you over the summer more than $10,000 a month, plus they pay you housing.鈥�

Hovey is himself a big deal at Martin and a big reason that Martin students have won this Amazon scholarship in each of the last five years.

鈥淟ook at Mr. Hovey over there,鈥� Chan said after opening the box. 鈥淗e鈥檚 been my teacher for four years and he鈥檚 just really motivated me to get to where I am today. I couldn鈥檛 have done it without him.鈥�

Chan is grateful for the support he received at Martin and for what this Amazon opportunity means.

鈥淚鈥檝e just been like, wow, I really do have the opportunity to intern in Seattle, meet all these new people and work for Amazon,鈥� he said, now wearing the new hoodie. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the best head start I could have in my life.鈥�

P-TECH seniors earned associate degrees, too

The Bowie High School P-TECH seniors have done a lot of walking lately.

The first-ever senior class is set to walk across the stage at Bowie鈥檚 graduation on Tuesday. But for most of these students, the walk across the stage at Globe Life Field won鈥檛 be their first. Many walked last week, too, at the graduation.

That鈥檚 right. They graduated with their associate degrees before they鈥檇 even received their high school diplomas.

One of the grads is Roselin Reju, Bowie鈥檚 2025 valedictorian.

Reju and her P-TECH classmates were the first cohort in the program when they started at Bowie four years ago. 鈥� Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools 鈥� give students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time.

One of four P-TECHs in 91直播, Bowie鈥檚 program is the only one focused on health sciences. Students can select from four fields of study, including pharmacy technician, central sterile processing, health information systems or ophthalmology. And a close partnership with allows for work-based, real-world opportunities for the students.

鈥淭he P-TECH is particularly important because it exposes students to real-life situations as well as allowing them to connect what they learn in the classroom to what they want to be in the health care field,鈥� said P-TECH chemistry teacher Minh Dang.

The health sciences P-TECH is the reason Reju chose to go to Bowie.

鈥淚 feel like it helps in the long run that we鈥檙e able to take these early classes and get college credit,鈥� Reju said.

Reju didn鈥檛 just obtain her associate degree while at Bowie, she also earned her pharmacy technician certification through classes at the 91直播 Career and Technical Center, which allows her to work at any pharmacy in Texas right after high school.

The pharmacy experience has helped Reju clarify what she wants to do after graduation.

鈥淏y being able to experience working as a pharmacist, I realized that it wasn鈥檛 the job for me,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 actually want to be a doctor, which I wouldn鈥檛 have known if it wasn't for P-TECH giving me that chance.鈥�

Fellow graduate Juan Guzman also credits his real-world experiences through Bowie P-TECH with setting him on the career path he wants.

Guzman was one of two seniors who got to work as a sterilization technician in a local dental office. The paid internship allowed him to practice what he learned in the classroom in a real healthcare setting and see how everything really works.

Guzman worked two shifts a week, five to six hours a day, sterilizing and stocking equipment and setting up things for patients.

鈥淚t is really fast paced,鈥� Guzman said. 鈥淵ou need to keep up with things. It鈥檚 been pretty great.鈥�

It鈥檚 exactly why he wanted to join the P-TECH program at Bowie.

鈥淭his was to gain experience in the medical field and hopefully have a shot at college,鈥� said Guzman, who plans to focus on nursing in college.

鈥淚t shows that I prepared, that I'm ready, that I'm determined,鈥� Guzman said about his P-TECH experience. 鈥淚'm glad that it was an opportunity that we all were able to have.鈥�

Sanchez known for his quiet determination听

In the crowded halls of Lamar High School, one senior stands out 鈥� not for being the loudest or most outspoken, but for the quiet determination that has carried him to an extraordinary milestone. Jovani Sanchez, a student in the AVID program at Lamar, has earned more than $1 million in scholarships and grants, setting him on a path to become a first-generation college student and future accountant.

It鈥檚 a story of faith, family and focus.

Born into a hardworking Mexican American family, Sanchez has always understood the value of education. He is quick to credit his parents鈥� sacrifices as his greatest motivation.

鈥淢y biggest motivation is my parents,鈥� Sanchez said. 鈥淚鈥檝e seen how hard they work and how much they鈥檝e sacrificed for me. Every scholarship I applied for was to take that pressure off of them and to show them that their love and support was enough, and that I鈥檝e done my part, too.鈥�

Sanchez鈥檚 college journey will begin this fall at , where he plans to major in accounting. His goal? To earn his CPA and eventually carve out a career in either auditing or entrepreneurship. But more than any job title, he wants a future that honors his roots.

鈥淲hatever path I choose, I want it to reflect where I come from and what I鈥檝e grown into,鈥� he explained. 鈥淓verything I do is through and for God and for my family.鈥�

Sanchez鈥檚 AVID teacher, Sarah Chrystie at Lamar, describes him as 鈥渙ne of a kind.鈥�

鈥淗e embodies what it means to be an AVID student,鈥� she said. 鈥淛ovani is always competing against the best version of himself. Even though he鈥檚 more reserved, he鈥檚 a strong leader in our class and in our program. He asks questions, seeks growth and never settles. It鈥檚 been a blessing to work with him.鈥�

This year, Sanchez was named a T3 Scholar for TCU and was one of three Dell Scholarship finalists at Lamar High School, an incredible honor that reflects his tenacity and drive.

Beyond the accolades, however, is a student who understands the power of purpose. For Sanchez, the journey isn鈥檛 just personal, it鈥檚 cultural and communal.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of my Mexican background,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 carry more than my own goals; I carry my family鈥檚 dreams, too. I want to show other students, especially those with Mexican heritage, that we can do this. That we鈥檙e capable. That we belong in these spaces, too.鈥�

Sanchez鈥檚 story is more than an academic success, it鈥檚 a testament to what鈥檚 possible when resilience meets opportunity. As he prepares to take his next steps at TCU, he does so with humility, hope and a heart full of gratitude.

鈥淚鈥檓 still growing, and there鈥檚 still so much to learn,鈥� he said. 鈥淏ut I know who I鈥檓 doing this for.鈥�

鈱猈hat is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?

My one piece of advice would be to be as open as possible to any experiences you can be a part of and say yes to as many things as possible during your four years because they will become some of the fondest memories you will look back on once you graduate. Getting involved with multiple things has allowed me to be friends with all kinds of people and learn so many life lessons that I will carry forward with me to college.

鈱猈hat will you miss most about high school?

I will miss the routine of high school and getting to see my friends, teachers and coaches every single day in class and during practice after school. They have made high school so enjoyable and I will miss getting to hang out with them and spend time together.

鈱猈hat are you most excited about after graduation?

I am most excited to move in at TCU and begin meeting so many new people through orientation, Frog Camp and the first week of classes on campus. I鈥檓 also super excited to begin diving deeper into two majors that I love and learning everything I can academically while also becoming involved in the many things TCU has to offer.

鈱猈ho inspires you the most and why?

My mom is my biggest inspiration and also my biggest cheerleader in every aspect of my life. She is always doing things for others without expecting a thank you in return and is incredibly patient and kind to everyone she meets, which is something I strive to be. She is my role model and she inspires me everyday to achieve my goals and continue to better myself both academically and as a person in general.

鈱猈hat鈥檚 your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory was joining the golf team as a senior because it felt like I had known the team my entire life after they had welcomed me with open arms and so much love. I loved getting to spend my afternoons golfing and talking with some of my best friends every day, laughing and eating ice cream after a long tournament day, and learning to become a better golf player thanks to my awesome coaches who worked with me everyday.听

Alex Martinez picks up job skills in high school

Alex Martinez is graduating from Arlington High School next week, and he knows exactly where he鈥檚 going.

That鈥檚 because he鈥檚 been working on his future for years through 91直播鈥檚 career and technical education (CTE) program. He鈥檚 already well on his way to achieving his goals thanks to the skills and experiences he gained while still in high school.

鈥淚 currently have a position secured with a major electrical contractor in the DFW area,鈥� Martinez said. 鈥淭his company is a strong fit for my values and goals, and I鈥檓 confident that I can contribute meaningfully to its mission. I am committed to providing the highest level of professional service and look forward to continuing to grow my customer service and relationship-building skills."

Martinez plans to use this experience to propel him to his ultimate goal 鈥� to own his own electrical contractor company.

听鈥淢y goal is to be at the top of electrical contractors in the DFW,鈥� Martinez said. 鈥淚 want my company to stand for a strong work ethic and operational excellence.鈥�

Martinez is well on his way to his goal. He is graduating from high school a year early and is already working toward his journeyman鈥檚 license. But he didn鈥檛 just gain technical skills at Arlington High. He also developed the discipline and drive needed to thrive in his field 鈥� hallmarks of a high-quality CTE program.

鈥淎lex is one of the hardest workers I have ever had the honor of teaching,鈥� said Christopher Grimaldo, Arlington High鈥檚 construction teacher. 鈥淗is work ethic is second to none, and his ability to adapt is exactly what we aim to build in all our students. Alex is the epitome of what an Arlington student is: smart, kind-hearted, passionate, determined and loyal. I am extremely proud of Alex and all his accomplishments.鈥�

Through Grimaldo鈥檚 hands-on construction classes and student leadership opportunities in the school鈥檚 construction club, students gain real-world experience and career-ready skills. From tool safety to time management, and from teamwork to leadership, these programs ensure students are ready for both the workforce and higher education.

鈥淚t鈥檚 fun,鈥� said Martinez. 鈥淚t鈥檚 really hands-on.鈥�

That hands-on learning approach is what sets CTE apart. Students don鈥檛 just study concepts, they apply them.

鈥淭he best way to learn in construction is through repetition,鈥� Grimaldo said. 鈥淪tudents also develop leadership, flexibility and problem-solving 鈥� skills that are vital in any industry.鈥�

Martinez served as a board member for Arlington High鈥檚 construction management team, helping organize events and coordinating with business sponsors. That role sharpened his communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

鈥淚鈥檝e worked on communicating effectively and solving problems,鈥� Martinez said. 鈥淭hese are things I鈥檒l carry with me throughout my career.鈥�

Martinez is grateful for the education and opportunities he received during his high school career and appreciates the leadership and direction his teachers provided.

鈥淚 would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Grimaldo for his guidance and support throughout my high school journey,鈥� Martinez said. 鈥淗is passion for teaching the construction trade and dedication to his students have inspired me to work hard and stay focused on my goals. I truly appreciate the impact he has made on my education and future.鈥�

Martinez and his peers are proof that CTE in 91直播 doesn鈥檛 just prepare students for a job 鈥� it prepares them for lifelong success in whatever field they want to pursue.

鈥淗aving a robust CTE program in 91直播 allows students and families to experience a vast menu of courses and gain job-ready skills that can lead to a positive income stream as soon as they graduate high school,鈥� said Susan Patterson, 91直播鈥檚 CTE director.

The times I spent laughing with all my friends when someone told an inside joke. Watching our teachers鈥� puzzled faces only made us laugh harder. Those jokes were built over our four years of high school, and I鈥檓 really going to miss the people who shared them with me.

I鈥檓 excited for the opportunity to study abroad, especially the chance to travel around Europe. I鈥檓 really hoping I get to watch FC Barcelona play live; that would be a dream come true.

Abner Mejia Lopez is a close friend with whom I鈥檝e had a friendly competition throughout high school. He inspires me with the confidence and determination he showed while pursuing prestigious scholarships and competitions. Through careful planning and dedication, he reached those goals on his own. He has a deep knowledge of history, chemistry and writing, and I often turn to him when I need something proofread or have questions. I hope to follow his example. Pursuing knowledge and aiming for the most prestigious accomplishments.

My favorite memory is Senior Sunset, being chased with buckets filled with water and having them dumped on us was a great experience. We were able to have fun again like kids without phones and just being ourselves.

Bowie High School kicks graduation off June 3 with an 8 a.m. ceremony, and Seguin High School closes out the Globe Life Field graduations at 11:30 a.m.

Venture starts the CVPA graduations at 3 p.m. followed by ACHS (5:30 p.m.) and ACCHS (8 p.m.).

Students who graduate in the summer of 2025 will have their ceremonies Aug. 5, 2025, at 6 p.m., at the CVPA.

Students who graduate in the summer of 2025 will have their ceremonies Aug. 5, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the CVPA.
